Wednesday I went on another fairly decent bike ride around South Minneapolis, my first since my fall last week, and it felt really good. Total distance was about 20 miles, which isn’t super long, but the longest I’ve done in the last five years at least.
I basically did the southern part of the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway, which connects creeks, rivers, lakes and parkways to form an outstanding and scenic bike trail in an urban setting. From the Minnehaha Creek, to Lake Harriet, Calhoun and Isles, over to Loring Park, through downtown to the Mississippi River Road, and back down to my house.
Even though it was really windy yesterday, especially around the lakes, I felt really strong, and wasn’t even that tired when I got home. I don’t know when I’ll have a free weekend any time soon, but I’m looking forward to trying the full Grand Round trip, which is like 40 miles or more, depending on how you circle the lakes.
Bike ride 4/27 - 14 miles
Bike ride 5/03 - 20 miles
That’s one of my favorite rides, except that it’s even more fun to cut over to the bike path when you’re in downtown Mpls, at around Hennepin and 11th St, to the entrance near Lee’s Liquor Lounge. Then, you ride that path until it comes out near Cedar lake, and head over to Isles from there.
