Tricia and I, along with some friends went out for dinner last night to the newish Blackbird restaurant on 50th and Bryant. I am a huge fan of the small bistro style restaurants that have opened up in Minneapolis over the past few years. It’s so nice to be able to have a nice meal without going downtown, or paying downtown prices. And you know that the people there are typically from the neighborhood.

(Blackbird is between The Malt Shop and Patina, next to the now closed Pane Vino Dolce along 50th St.)

The interior of Blackbird was really unique, maybe 20 tables, antique antlers hanging on the wall, but also some Japanese paintings and lights. It all worked though and looked great.

We were all happy with our meals, though next time we go I really want to try some of the items on their tidbits menu. I was a little bummed by the beer selection, only 1 beer on tap, last night they had Bubblejack IPA, which I really like, but it would have been nice to have more of a selection. They did have a decent wine list though, which I think probably fits the area more.

Here is what we had for dinner:

The Longhorn - 9.95
Focaccia stuffed with 1/3 beef brisket with caramelized onions, tomatoes, provolone & horseradish mayo

Roasted Portabellawich - 8.95
Marinated portobella, red pepper, chevre & tapenade

Fish Fry - 13.95
Panko crusted salmon served with soy dipping sauce and fries

Griddled trout - 14.95
With preserved lemon, bacon, lentils & pesto verde

  1. [...] went to Blackbird before for dinner last August, and brunch was just as good, meaning they are two for two. What I love most about this [...]
