Tricia and I finally made it to the new burger joint in the neighborhood, Buster’s on 28th, in the old Lake Inn location. Even though it’s on the other side Hiawatha, it’s still only about a mile away, so it was a perfect distance to walk to, something I plan on doing quite a bit!
The Lake Inn was famous for some of the best burgers in town, but in typical South Minneapolis tradition, they had a lame beer selection, mostly American macros, a slight upgrade from the 3:2 beer days.
The menu at Buster’s is mostly burgers and pizzas, but they are getting attention because of an above average beer selection. Thankfully someone finally heard my cries for a beer place near Longfellow. Surly, Flat Earth, Bell’s, Rogue, Rush River, Summit - over twenty beers, all on tap. It was a nice mix of those American craft beers, Murphy’s, Newcastle, Paulaner and a few Belgian beers. I still wish they would have opened along East Lake, which I think would have made them a little more visible, but I’ll take what I can get.
Before they opened, I had heard that Buster’s would have the same great burgers as the Lake Inn, which would have been fine, but they really weren’t the same at all, they were better. I always get a mushroom swiss burger when at a burger place, but instead of just canned mushrooms, they use crimini mushrooms and aged swiss, and Tricia’s Rachel was as good as any we’ve ever had. It was nice to have another good burger place in the area, but it seems like a lot of places these days are making $8 gourmet burgers. I’d like to try the pizzas, but I’d be okay with getting the mushroom swiss burger every time I go.
I was really bummed I couldn’t make it to the grand opening party a few weeks ago with Aaron, Ed and others for Taylor’s live blogging event (flickr photos), but hopefully I’ll see the other Longfellow bloggers there soon.
I’m really looking forward to going back for dinner again soon, but really I’m just excited to have a place close by, so we don’t always have to drive over to St. Paul for the Muddy Pig or the Happy Gnome. And to have it within walking distance, makes it even better.
I went there again last night. My, their staff was friendly.
By “friendly”, do you mean young and attractive? Or do you mean they gave out free beer?
D’oh…This place is just a few blocks away from TLMC’s compound/outpost…need to get over there.
Looks like with their beer selection they have beaten the Moe’s East-Lake Pub to the punch!
You people need to get a life and realize what it takes too open a restaurant bar, the chances people take and the risk involved. This place is nice and would represent any decent neighborhood well.
I have been their and will tell everyone I talk too telling them that this place is safe nice and a great place to spend a week night or weekend night at.
Some people should put up or shut the hell up.
You are an idiot.
WTF? Did this person even read your post before enlightening us with their grammatically perfect tirade? Sheesh!
Exactly. I was going to write more, but figured that calling him an idiot was just easier.
I think the poster was referring to me. I need to get a life. Concur.
