RNC March for Peace

September 1st, 2008

My pictures from the March for Peace protest in downtown St. Paul. So much happened that I don’t even know where to start. All I know is that you could tell who the troublemakers were and so we stayed as far away from them as possible. Props to the St. Paul Police and everyone involved on both ends for their work in keeping it as calm as possible. I’ll never understand why some groups feel the need to take it as far as they do though, and I hope they get what they deserve. Most of us were there for peace.

From what I could tell the march started before it was actually supposed to. People were still giving speeches, when a large group of, what I’ll call antagonists, started moving away from the Capitol and down the designated route. And with an event that large, and without proper or expected organization and leadership, the masses followed them. We wanted nothing to do with that group, so we waited for a while before joining up with the rest of the group.

All in all we had a lot of fun with the event, and while I’m not naive enough to think that it will change anything, I do believe that it is important to join together and make our voices heard, during an event like the RNC, where most of the talk will be opposite of that from the people of Minnesota. Full photo set.

More pics from: Kevin D. Hendricks, Aaron Landry, waiting line, MPR, The Uptake, and jcbehm (including this awesome picture of the flag behind broken glass).

That is the best sign I have ever read. My wife said, “what do they think they will accomplish with that sign?” I replied, “getting a good laugh out of me.”

    Great photo.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s about accomplishing anything, it’s all about making people laugh!

Its funny, and I’m glad to see the chuckle here…but I wonder if the person intended it as such.

What a contrast. Obama put 70,000 people into the streets of St. Paul and we saw ONE protestor — the illiterate racist who dragged his son with and neither of them could spell “Muslim.” And when we laughed at them they walked away. Way to be strong, dude.

Meanwhile the RNC garners federal riot cops and has to import muckety-mucks from around the country just to achieve a 2:1 ratio of attendance versus protest.
