BeeTour Photography’s Take Back Labor Day concert photos. Looks like it was a great event, and I wish I would have been there, but it was just too hot and muggy for me.

Radiohead Still Oddly Silent Over Beefs With Hold Steady and Silver Jews: On Sunday, bespectacled, cirrhosis-livered Hold Steady guitarist Tad Kubler set off a music-blog firestorm by brutally slagging off Radiohead during an interview with BBC’s Radio 6. “I think they’ve lost the plot,” he said. “I like them as a rock band, all the buttons and sequencing and stuff like that I don’t really care for. I’m a fan of rock music, and what they’re doing now I don’t think is very good.”
White House DJ Battle: On the eve of the Democratic and Republican conventions, Blender polled Barack Obama and John McCain for their top 10 songs. Then we enlisted trusted sages Randy Newman and Girl Talk to analyze their picks.
Via solace and others over at the How Was The Show Forums, they’ve compiled a list of shows during the Republican National Convention. Should be a huge week in St. Paul. Here are some of the best…

Rocktober: List of concerts in Minneapolis this October. Year after year, October is the best month for shows in Minneapolis. This looks to be no exception. My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes, Stereolab, Broken Social Scene, Wire, TV on the Radio, and Kelly Clarkson - just to name a few.
Friday night, the Roe Family Singers (myspace) played a free show at Sea Salt, so we stopped over for some food, beers, and good music. I wish we would have been able to hear more of them, but the tables in front were full, so we had to sit on the side. But what I heard I enjoyed, and look forward to seeing them again.

Sasha Frere-Jones: Bon Iver: Bon Iver’s show at the Bowery Ballroom brought me up short. I’d never seen him, and I simply had no idea that all this heavenly music came out of such an affable, unpretentious person, and such a tall one. Though Vernon recorded the album alone, he is touring with a live band, and an opening act called Bowerbirds, who I would be celebrating more loudly if Vernon hadn’t wiped my brain clean.

I didn’t make it to the show last night, but here are a couple reviews…
Chris Riemenschneider: Pop Life: The Hold Steady’s ‘Positive’ jam at First Ave: I’ve seen every Hold Steady show that’s gone off in Minneapolis, save for one of the two in the two-night stand at the Triple Rock early in 2005. I do believe last night’s was the best yet.
Words To Sell: The Hold Steady @ First Avenue: For any other band, last night’s show would have been an absolute triumph, but for The Hold Steady, it was simply a good homecoming show, but compared to past First Ave. shows, something was lacking to make this a truly memorable show.
